Friends, Lovers, Muses

Ever since I started photographing in the early 1970's, my favorite subjects were the people close to me, regardless of the relationship. I dedicate this section to individual series of portraits of people whom I photographed  in most cases over a period of time. This could be by far the most comprehensive and consistent body of work through my 40 year 'career' in photography. I hope to expand the series chronologically, using the date of the first photograph of each person as the determining factor in the list

Even though I like to follow a strict definition of a portrait, where the subject is not only aware of being photographed, but also participating, and in most cases looking into the camera, the following portfolios may include candid photographs where the subject is not actively engaged in the process.

Finally, I have wondered if the term Muse may be misinterpreted as someone who simply serves as the subject or catalyst to an artist's creativity. Just to be clear, the following persons either are or have been important people in my life. I am also sad to say that many of them are part of a generation decimated by AIDS, and therefore are no longer with us. I will place a Red Ribbon in the page of those who have succumbed to this most unfortunate and devastating disease.

The names are visible when you roll your cursor over the photographs.  The dates are the range of years when the photographs were taken.
