The Price of Gas

A selection of pages from a book project, in which photographs taken by Lucien Samaha, that contain gas stations with the price of gas visible somewhere in the image, are printed on the right page, adjacent to the left page containing relevant news items from the same day or month as the photograph.

Instead of page numbers, I am using the actual (lowest) price seen in the image. This number is printed at a font size identical to the number. By the end of the book, these numbers will exceed the size of the page, indicating that in a finite system like Planet Earth, the effects of oil consumption are unsustainable.

The news items selected for the book also indicate that the price of gas consumption is much more than the dollar amount spent, but rather a variety of very costly variables including wars, lives lost in oil production, and catastrophic environmental consequences.
