So Many Manhattans

During my long career as a photographer, I have combined my practice with my social agenda. In the art world, it is referred to as Social Practice. For this project, I sought to visit friends in Manhattan, whom otherwise I hadn’t seen in a long time, and used their rooftops, balconies, bedroom windows as vantage points to photograph my home city, New York City. I had been long fascinated with the clustering of various structures, some even centuries apart, in the same field of view. The camera can make these clusters even more engaging. What began as a daytime endeavor, evolved into dusk and eventually into nightscapes, where I used various photographic techniques to achieve magical results.
